pause before you post

assemblyScott Fitch visited Honeoye Falls-Lima High School on September 9, 2024, speaking to the classes of 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028 during class assemblies about HF-L PRIDE values, with a strong focus on responsible social media use.

Employed by Jostens, Fitch is also the coach of the U17 USA National Basketball Team and the Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Fairport High School. He has delivered his presentation, "Pause Before You Post," to over 500 schools and more than 500,000 students, discussing the impact of social media.

At HF-L, Fitch emphasized the importance of kindness and respect, reminding students that nothing truly disappears on social media, making their words in posts and comments highly significant. He shared stories of students who were bullied online, explaining how it negatively affected not just the victims, but also their friends, families, and teammates.

He also recounted experiences where some of his former players faced serious consequences due to inappropriate social media posts. Fitch stressed that employers often check social media profiles before offering interviews, and colleges or sports teams may review online activity before accepting applicants or offering positions.

"It was amazing to see how connected the students were to the stories Scott shared. His message really resonated with them, and I believe it will have a lasting impact on how they approach their online behavior," said Jackie Davern, High School Assistant Principal.

Fitch connected these messages to the special nature of the Honeoye Falls-Lima community, encouraging students to carry that spirit of kindness with them both in school and online.

“Mr. Fitch did a wonderful job capturing the important message of responsible online use to our students and connecting it to our PRIDE characteristics. He shared powerful stories and personal experiences that engaged the students. I was so pleased that we were able to bring this opportunity to the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School community,” said David Roth, HF-L Principal.

This morning's assemblies also included a review of expectations and opportunities for students at the high school. Special thanks to all our students and staff for contributing to a positive start to the school year.
