Congratulations to Cydney Benjamin on being a recipient of the BOE's Cougar Pride Award. Benjamin was nominated by Clive MacDougall-Purnell for being a brand-new driver who perfectly drew on her training, protecting the lives of two students who could have crossed into the path of an oncoming car that had chosen to ignore and drive through the bus's red lights. Despite the vehicle being in the distance when the students disembarked, she recognized the danger and held them until the offending vehicle had passed.
Congratulations to Patty Ulmer-Fleming on being a recipient of the BOE's Cougar Pride Award. Ulmer-Fleming was nominated by Cindy Peterson for keeping our students safe. On March 22, 2024, bus 37 was full of students heading in to start their school day. While traveling on York St., a car came over the crest of the road and was traveling in the buses traffic lane @ 55mph. Miss Patty evasively moved into the other lane and the car sped by the school bus. Miss Patty did not even have a split second to decide what to do. Her protective instincts took over and she saved the lives of her precious cargo. Miss Patty has been a professional school bus driver with HF-L since 2012. Her primary goal is to keep students safe while they are in her care. We are extremely proud of Miss Patty!!!

Congratulations to Zach T. who was part of the winning Automated Manufacturing Technology Team at the SkillsUSA competition in Syracuse. This win qualifies him to participate in the SkillsUSA National Competition in June, which will be held in Atlanta, GA.
According to SkillsUSA.org, The SkillsUSA Championships is the premier showcase of America’s most highly skilled career and technical education students. It’s also one of the largest hands-on workforce development events in the world. This event features more than 6,000 state champions from across the United States competing head-to-head in 115 skilled and leadership competitions. The SkillsUSA Championships is the national culmination of a year-long process that begins in local SkillsUSA chapters across the country. Local winners advance to district or regional competitions, testing their skills against competitors from other schools. Those winners advance to state competitions each spring, and state gold medalists earn the right to compete nationally at the SkillsUSA Championships each June. Along with gold, silver and bronze medallions, competitors may earn scholarships, tools of the trade, and even job offers right off the competition floor. Perhaps most importantly, they earn the confidence that can only come when you know you’re among the best of the best in what you do.
Congratulations, Zach!
